TEAM MEMBER SPOTLIGHT! Meet Jonas! 🤎🎣
This Colorado native has been with us for the past year and a half as a fly fishing & hiking guide in the summers and a shuttle driver & snow man in the winters. We`re so grateful to have Jonas on the team, bringing along good vibes and smiles everywhere he goes!

🤠 What brought you to Turpin?
Yellowstone and Teton territory has always mesmerized me ever since I was a kid and I always knew I’d want to guide here someday and share my passion for fly fishing and nature with others. When I got that opportunity from Turpin, boy did I jump on it!!!

🐟 How did you get into fly fishing?
When I was 12 my Mom met my Stepdad who was a fly fishing guide in the beautiful state of Colorado. He took me under his wing and showed me the ropes and was the first person to take me out to see Yellowstone Teton territory, that’s where the spark began!! But I also have to give credit to my Dad for giving me my passion for fishing in general and my love for nature.

🎣 Biggest fish story you`ve witnessed on the ranch?
I took a Father and Son to the Snake River and there was a huge drake hatch happening and fish were rising EVERYWHERE! We scoped out the hole and found a monster slowly sipping on the surface, the son didn’t hesitate one bit to drop that fly right in his feeding lane and pull out a 19 inch cuttie!!!

❄️ What’s one thing guests are always surprised by in the winter?
How on full moon nights the snow glistens and reflects the light to where it almost looks like morning in the middle of the night! It’s the most beautiful part of winter in my opinion.

The fireweed losing its pink petals and starting to fluff up is one of nature’s many signs that fall is on its way!🌸

Blooming in tall, beautiful stalks with pink flowering petals at the top, Fireweed is an abundant wildflower here in the Rocky Mountain Range.

It starts blooming here in late July and by the end of August, it transitions into the last stages of its lifecycle where those pink petals turn into a deep maroon with fluffy clusters of seeds at the very tip.

Legend has it, when the fireweed starts to fluff up, the first snowfall is three weeks away.

These wildflowers are essential to the ecosystem of the Rocky Mountain Range providing nectar and pollen to pollinators, preventing erosion, habitats for wildlife, and stabilizing the soil for other plant species to flourish!

Hillary is our Lodge Manager and the glue that holds this ranch together! Her & her husband arrived in 2020 and one year later welcomed their daughter Evie into the world. Words can`t begin to describe how much she contributes to the magic & success of Turpin and we`re so blessed to have her!

🌸 After 5 years what`s one thing you think makes this ranch so special?
For me, it’s the way the Tetons call to you every day. No matter how often I look out the window, they never lose their power to inspire. But it’s more than the scenery, it’s sharing that feeling with our guests. The mountains set the stage, and our team brings it to life by creating moments that help people slow down, connect, & make lasting memories.

🌸 What first brought you to the ranch, and what has kept you there?
My husband and I first came to the Ranch while we were traveling & working seasonal jobs, thinking it would just be one summer stop along the way. But the moment we settled into life here, the setting & the sense of community captured us. A year later, we welcomed our daughter here in Jackson, and from that point on, it stopped being just a seasonal adventure and truly became home.

🌸 Can you share one of your most memorable guest experiences?
One that will always stay with me was a surprise birthday celebration for a little boy. He and his parents had set out on a trail ride and on the way back our wrangler quietly led them to our pasture with Teton views. Waiting there was a small table we had decorated with a cake, gifts, and balloons. When he realized it was all for him, his face lit up completely. He was shocked and absolutely thrilled! Moments like that remind me how special it is to carve out meaningful experiences for our guests, no matter how big or small.

🌸 When you`re not managing the lodge what would we find you doing?
Most likely spending time with my family. In the summer, that might mean hiking or kayaking with my husband and daughter, or relaxing by one of the nearby lakes. And when the ranch slows down in the off-season, we love to travel together. It’s a chance to recharge, explore new places, & then come back inspired.
